A legendary 50th anniversary livery for the three GPX Racing Porsches!

Press Release GPX Racing

14 July 2020

In 1970, three Porsche 908/3s entered by John Wyer in the Gulf colours raced in the Targa Florio in three distinct liveries and two of them scored a resounding double! Fifty years later, GPX Racing is preparing to enter three Porsche 911 GT3 Rs decorated in an evolution of this iconic design!

All the elements of this legendary livery will be reproduced on the three GPX Racing Porsches for their 2020 campaign including the race numbers and the “ace” playing card symbols.

Half-a-century ago, victory in the Targa Florio went to #12 driven by Jo Siffert and Brian Redman followed in second place by #40 while #36 finished fifth.

GPX Racing’s #12 and #40 Porsches will be entered for the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. Patrick Pilet, Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell will share the former while there will be a change in the line-up of the sister car from the one announced in February. Romain Dumas and Thomas Preining are to team up with Louis Deletraz, the GPX Academy driver, depending on the evolution of the FIA Formula 2 calendar which, for the moment, hasn’t yet been fixed: at present, only the Nürburgring round clashes with the Swiss driver’s single-seater programme. Dennis Olsen will replace him on this occasion.

#36 should take part in several races currently being assessed depending on the evolution of the calendars and the world health situation.

Pierre Brice-Mena, Team Principal: “We’re particularly proud to commemorate the exploit achieved by Porsche half-a-century ago in such an extraordinary event as the Targa Florio. I hope we will prove ourselves worthy of the task on the circuits of the championships that we’re tackling beginning with the Imola GTWC meeting on 25-26 July.”
